From time to time DKM or its officers invest in non-core companies, ranging from venture capital to private equity funds to established companies. In these situations the DKM investors are almost always minority investors. Industries of involvement in the past have included broadcasting, pharmaceuticals, the motion picture industry and other niche areas. DKM's officer group has its most recent investments in the following companies:
  • Community Connect: The leading Internet community website creator, with BlackPlanet.com, Asianavenue.com and MiGente.com serving the black, Asian and Hispanic communities. BlackPlanet.com is now one of the top-ten sites visited in the entire Internet and has grown to over three million members. MiGente.com is rapidly growing as a force in the Hispanic community while AsianAvenue.com, the original site developed by Community Connect, has over one million members and continues to exhibit strong growth in page readership.

  • Clarity LLC: Clarity's CVC voice extraction technology is a leading edge solution to the problem of noise interference in voice transference. The company's proprietary software pulls voice out of noise and should revolutionize voice- operated devices used in automobiles, the home and workplace. Clarity's technology should also have important bandwidth savings applications in the telephone industry and is already gaining ground in the hearing devices industry

  • Gas Components Group: Incorporated ("GasCo"), was created in June of 2002 by an investor group consisting of Dyson Investments LLC (The Dyson Family and DKM Management), Noro-Moseley Partners of Atlanta, Georgia and River Associates of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Immediately following its formation, GasCo acquired Burner Systems International, Inc. from DKM. Burner Systems later acquired Precision Engineered Products of Bedford, England in early 2003 for its cooktop components product lines.

    Burner Systems International, headquartered in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and its Ohio-based subsidiary Universal Tubular Systems manufacture custom engineered burners and manifolds for original equipment manufacturers (OEM's) in the grill, cooking, and gas heating equipment markets. Additionally, the companies produce aluminum supply tubing and patented fittings that allow the OEM's to safely and efficiently plumb gas fired appliances. The majority of all gas cooking equipment produced in North America utilizes the technology.
